Aviva Studios presents cheque to KGH Foundation – January 2016

Aviva Studios has completed the 2015 edition of “Children of the Okanagan” – a book filled with over 80 photographs of kids in our community.  The 4th release raised $9,100 through donations from participants in lieu of sitting fees.  This puts contributions from the books at over $58,000 for children’s care at Kelowna General Hospital.

Elizabeth Tremblay, photographer at Aviva Studios, was inspired to support KGH after her little girl needed neonatal care post birth.  “I really do enjoy what I do and I am so excited to be able to give back through my photography,” Tremblay explains.  “Each one of the portraits in this book is special to me and each shoot put a smile on my face.”

Proceeds will go toward the “Have a Heart” Radiothon being held at Orchard Park Shopping Centre on Thursday, February 12th.  The 12 hour live broadcast rallies the community’s support – this year focusing on the KGH Foundation’s Giving Giggles campaign for the new Perinatal Unit opening March 2016.

The new unit is on the 4th floor of the Interior Heart and Surgical Centre where 1,600 babies are born each year and as young as 30 weeks.   It will replace the existing labour and delivery unit, postpartum, and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit currently housed in the Strathcona Building. The new perinatal unit will feature:
expanded patient and clinical space for the best working environment possible,
central neonatal monitoring reserving touch for baby and family,
a new state of the art surgical suite for caesarean section deliveries,
single-patient post-partum rooms with enough space for the whole family, and
an upgraded neonatal intensive care unit caring for premature or critically ill newborns.
